So well said, I struggle with this as well. As the daughter of an Korean American woman and a white man, nothing grinds my gears more than, “So what are you?” It’s so insensitive, but the fact that the inappropriateness of this questions doesn’t even occur to most people shows how far we have to go. I’m never sure if I can claim to be a POC or not, the model minority myth is another nuanced layer of mixed-race identity. Definitely don’t have any answers but I enjoyed reading your piece and it helps to know others are wondering about it, too.
