But this is the first summer I’ve seen her

Summers as a child were sleepaway camps, mosquito bites, the buzz of horseflies around the sweet smell of hay and sweat and velvety noses in the shade of the barn. They were meals on the porch and golden light and blissful unawareness of what my body looked like.
