Great read, Ryan, thank you for sharing. As a high school and collegiate athlete, I never saw anyone who looked like me, other than perhaps every four years at the Olympics. I too have struggled with shaping my own identity as a mixed-race Asian-American woman and how to define my ethnicity. As I learn more about institutionalized and internalized racism, it’s been challenging for me to know where I go next but as you said, there is some clarity on where I don’t want to go. As a fellow runner I loved this piece for a lot of reasons.
